About the figure:

The technical illustration at the top of this page is the electric control system for a unique testing apparatus. The machine was designed to measure reaction times by cuing the the subject to react via mechanical arm instead of a digital screen. This redesign was necessary in order to properly test reaction times under ambient lighting conditions which is not possible using a screen-based system. You can read the associated paper here.
